Valparaiso Family YMCA Mission Statement

The Valparaiso Family YMCA is an inclusive, inter-faith charitable organization founded in Christian principles and traditions, dedicated to instilling the values of caring, honesty, respect, and responsibility, and providing for lifelong personal growth and the development of a healthy spirit, mind, and body for all.

At the YMCA, we pride ourselves on being a microcosm of the community at large-a place where all are welcome and everyone has a sense of belonging. The YMCA is a non-profit organization designed to be inclusive. So whether you're an athlete or if you've never used an exercise machine in your life - the YMCA has a place for you.

The Valparaiso Family YMCA is located in the heart of Valparaiso, but provides services throughout the community. The staff and Board of Directors are deeply committed to serving our members and to the quality of our programs. We pride ourselves in offering programs that allow individuals and families to seek personal growth - building spirit, mind and body.

The Valparaiso Family YMCA provides preschool, extended kindergarten, before-school, and after-school programs for over 400 kids each day. Memberships are available to those who cannot afford them, via scholarships. No one is denied YMCA membership due to a lack of financial resources. Last year, the Valparaiso Family YMCA provided over $200,000 in financial aid to program participants.

At the Valparaiso Family YMCA, we serve thousands each year. In 2006:

• 364 children had fun while learning in our preschool program
• 278 children enjoyed summer camp
• 906 children participated in our youth sports programs
• Over 1,000 children learned swimming and water skills
• 350 families enjoyed special family-centered events
• 645 families received financial assistance with membership and program fees
